Who We Are

JEDS stands for Jersey Eating Disorders Support which is a registered local Charity providing support for those affected by eating disorders and their families and friends.

The charity was first set up over 30 years ago and became a member of the Association of Jersey Charities in 1998.

JEDS was approved by and registered with The Jersey Charities Commission on 8 July 2019.

The aim of the charity is to provide a safe space where people can meet together, whether you are affected personally or if you are a family member or friend who is concerned about a loved one affected by an eating disorder.

Help and support may consist of providing and evaluating relevant information about eating disorders, relating personal experiences, listening to and receiving others’ experiences, delivering empathetic understanding and forming social networks.

We aim to raise public awareness and encourage education about eating disorders within Jersey.

JEDS is run by a group of volunteers who have experienced or have experience in dealing with eating disorders.

What We Do

JEDS holds a support group meeting on the second Monday of every month at The Willows Day Centre, Green Street, St. Helier, Jersey. Commencing at 19.30 hrs

The purpose of the meetings is to provide a safe space where people can come and share their experiences. The group is run on a self-help basis. The opportunity to be heard and supported by JEDS is open not just to people directly affected by an eating disorder but to people who care for and are supporting someone who is affected.

We feel that when you’re able to share a personal story with others who are experiencing the same challenges, it helps to relieve the stigma and highlights that you are not alone. JEDS is here to support you.

At JEDS we will encourage our group members to seek professional help and if ready, embark on a professional treatment programme. As with any disorder, it is best  to allow the person affected to make the decision to seek help and take charge. At JEDS we provide the support they need to help them make these decisions.
