Who We Are
JEDS stands for Jersey Eating Disorders Support which is a registered local Charity providing support for those affected by eating disorders and their families and friends.
The charity was first set up over 30 years ago and became a member of the Association of Jersey Charities in 1998.
JEDS was approved by and registered with The Jersey Charities Commission on 8 July 2019.
The aim of the charity is to provide a safe space where people can meet together, whether you are affected personally or if you are a family member or friend who is concerned about a loved one affected by an eating disorder.
Help and support may consist of providing and evaluating relevant information about eating disorders, relating personal experiences, listening to and receiving others’ experiences, delivering empathetic understanding and forming social networks.
We aim to raise public awareness and encourage education about eating disorders within Jersey.
JEDS is run by a group of volunteers who have experienced or have experience in dealing with eating disorders.
What We Do
The Coronavirus outbreak has brought major life changes to many. The uncertainly and disruption to our normal routine can cause those who are suffering with an eating disorder to feel out of control which can pose a serious risk to their health as they can feel anxious and overwhelmed.
Jersey Eating Disorders Support (JEDS) offers a safe space to express how you are feeling, whether you are living with an eating disorder, or you are a carer or supporter of someone with one. JEDS is now offering free one-to-one peer support or counselling sessions for those living with an eating disorder and free one-to-one peer support or counselling sessions for those caring for or supporting someone with an eating disorder. They are held on the second and fourth Monday of the month at the Jersey Library between 6 and 9pm. Please email Karen Dingle on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
In addition to the one-to-one support, we are holding weekly group meetings at the Jersey Library in town. The session for those supporting others with an eating disorder is from 6 -7pm and the meeting for those living with an eating disorder will be from 7.30 - 8.30pm every first and third Monday of the month from 5th October 2020. Please email Karen Dingle on email@example.com in order to reserve a place as we are restricted to ten places due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
